Making Sense of FND
FND is a disorder of brain function and we know that brains can get twitchy and glitchy when they get overloaded.
In FND the central nervous system is not broken but glitches sometimes. It’s not a hardware problem to do with our joints, muscles or bones but a software one to do with our programming for these body parts. The brain’s "software" misfires, even though the "hardware" (structure) appears normal on scans. It disrupts how your brain sends and receives signals, affecting movement, sensation, awareness, and energy.
You might experience:
Sudden weakness or tremors
Gait or balance issues
Dissociative episodes (non-epileptic seizures)
Sensory changes (numbness, tingling)
Cognitive difficulties (memory, focus)
Crushing fatigue
Slurred, slowed, or stuttered speech
Changes in Vision
Tremors, jerky movements, or twitches
Common stories we hear:
These experiences are not uncommon. We see you, we believe you, and we work with you.
How Occupational Therapy Can Help with FND:
Occupational therapy focuses on restoring your function, independence, and wellbeing in everyday life. Our approach is gentle, collaborative, and individualised.
We apply a biopsychosocial lens — recognising injury, pain, stress or trauma, and how they interplay with brain‑body function
We help you:
Manage fatigue and energy crashes with pacing strategies
Create daily routines that work with, not against your brain
Adapt your home, work, or study environment
Improve memory and focus using functional cognitive supports
our treatment plan is part of a broader multidisciplinary network — we coordinate with your neurologist, physio, psychologist and other specialists to build cohesive support
At One 3 Care, you’ll work with Senior OT and FND Specialist Renee, who brings both deep clinical knowledge and a passion for inclusive care.
What this support can look like:
Every journey with FND is unique, but there are gentle, proven steps that can help you feel more in control and less overwhelmed. Here’s what we focus on together:
Understanding FND
Learning what’s happening in your body and why — because understanding brings relief, reduces fear, and is the first step toward healing.Body & Emotion Awareness
We gently explore the patterns between pain, fatigue, and emotional responses — helping you reconnect with your body in a safer, more compassionate way.Daily Check-ins
Simple tools to track how safe or stressed you feel, your energy levels, and what your body might be trying to tell you. This builds clarity and confidence over time.Balanced Pacing
Learning to avoid the “push-crash” cycle by finding a rhythm that suits your energy and needs — not anyone else’s.Recognising Triggers
Together we identify what tends to lead to flare-ups or shutdowns, and why — so you can feel more prepared, not caught off guard.Gentle Progress
Step by step, we help you rebuild trust in your body, re-engage with movement or tasks, and develop a personal support plan that grows with you.
You don’t have to do this alone. We’re here to walk alongside you.
